General Settings part 1
Author: PleegWat
Base Version: 2.0 Build 2004.03.05
Last Updated: August 12, 2004
I am using version 2.00 build 2004.03.05. Any settings of which I don't know the meaning
are in italic, and don't have a description.
Contents:
The general dialog contains the most important settings, and can be hard to navigate. If
you click on the icon in the control panel, you'll get a loading screen, and after up to
30 seconds you'll get this dialog:

Firstly, there are two buttons at the bottom left corner. Both are better left alone.
[aA]>key gen clon dvd version 3560Script tab
- User Inforation, System Inforation. These values can be recalled using the /show
alias or using the right-click menu.
- Behaviour
- 'don't minimize query windows' If you leave this option unchecked, and
someone query's (PM's) you, the window will be minized, and your current
window will stay active. If you check it, the query window will become
active.
- 'don't whois on query' If this is unchecked UPP will ask for whois information
on the user querying you. this will thell you their ip, hostname or vhost,
the channel they are on, their current away message (if any) and some other
stuff.
- 'reduce visual lag during netsplits' The name is clear. I don't use it
and I don't know if it works.
- 'show inactive server messages in the status window' is only useful if you
are connected to multiple servers. If the box is checked, messages (globals,
logon inforationn, etc) regarding the inactive servers will be sent to that
servers status window. If it is unchecked, this info will appear in your
active window. (It will be marked as belonging to another server)
- 'use boldface for capitals in texts' UPP has lots of fancy themed messages,
adverts, and warnings. This option makes it even worse by making all
capitals in labels in those ads bold.
- 'don't open query windows to users that have no channels in common' The
label is clear.
- Match Strings. These are used for the 'voice fserve ads' (voicing tab) and 'show ads in seperate window' (irc tab) settings. Usually the defaults work fine.

I'll handle these per checkbox group.
- Server:
- 'don't use the server window' messages that go to the server window
will use the status window instead
- 'show repeated channelmodes' will show a channelmode is set even if
it already was set.
- Connect
- 'update ial after connect' Turn this off if the server kicks you for
'SendQ exceeded'
- 'infinite server connection retries' If you happen to get
disconnected from the server, setting this box will make UPP try
reconnecting once every 10 seconds until you stop it.
- 'auto-reclaim nick'
- 'show networkservices status'
- DCC
- Usermodes: Rather self-explanatory. If you are on a network that uses
non-standard usermodes you should pick custom, and don't check any
checkboxes.
- Chatting
- 'nick complete' if you check this, and you start a line with the
beginning of a nick and a : UPP will autocomplete the nick. This can be
done more relyably by typing the first characters of the nick then
hitting tab until the right one comes up.
- 'typing stats' UPP will remember how much you type in it, and show
it if you use the '/show typing skills' alias.
- 'ads in seperate window' will move fserve ads to a seperate @ads
window
- 'hop when nickchange fails'
- Channel control
- 'opwatch'
- 'empty banlist when full' will clear a channels banlist if the
server maximum has been reached.
- 'sync auto-ops/voices when (h)opped' this will voice users in your
autovoice list and op users in your autoop list when you aquire the
power to do so.
- 'don't show counter behind kick reason' by default UPP show for each
kick how many times you've kicked someone yet. This turns it off.
- CTCP version reply: allows you to set the reply UPP gives when another
user does a ctcp version request.

- Script and timestamp colors: in some themes this will allow you to set
the ad coloring. The other two boxes allow you to pick the colors used in
the two default tiestamp formats.
- Timestamp: This allows you to specify one out of two default timestamp
formats (24 hour and 12 hour am/pm) or you can specify your own timestamp.
- Titlebar information: quite self-explanatory. Shows information in the
IRC titlebar.
- Messages on start: quite self-explanatory. Info to show on start.

I will first handle the settings on the right. These settings use
network-specific settings from the listbox on the left. 'your nicks' or 'your
channels' are channels set in the network-specific subdialogs.
- Settings
- NickServ
- 'auto identify' Automatically identify for your nicks.
- 'auto unguest' Automatically change your nick back if it is changed
into a guest nick.
- 'auto ghost' Automatically remove another user using one of your
nicks.
- 'identify every ___ mins' automatically identify your nick in these
intervals.
- ChanServ
- 'identify on connect' Identifies for your channels on connect.
- 'access watch'
- 'auto join on invite' automatically join a channel if you are
invited to it. If you turn this setting off 'chanserv invite autojoin'
will not join the channel.
- 'auto request invite' automatically ask chanserv for invite if the
channel is invite-only and you have chanserv access for that channel.
- 'request op every ___ mins' automatically request op at the channel
at these intervals.

[aA]>key gen clon dvd version 3560Networks subdialogs
Use the networks grid and the add, edit, remove buttons to make settings for
multiple networkst. Clicking edit will bring up this subdialog, the add dialog only
has a different caption:

Settings: For network fill in the network name. You can see the network name by
typing this in a window for that network:
//aecho $network
For the chanserv access channels the following options are available:

You should check the commands you have access to.
For the registered nicks the following options are available:

The second tab of the network settings dialog allows you to set the
available services.

Both command inputboxes should contain the command you have to execute to get
access to that service.
For example, if you access chanserv by typing /msg chanserv
<command> you put !.msg chanserv.
If you access chanserv by typing /cs, you put
!.cs
For each command, check the checkbox if the network supports that command, and
enter the correct command to send.

[aA]>key gen clon dvd version 3560Away tab

- Settings
- 'auto away after ___ minutes' marks you away after ___ minutes of
inactivity
- 'change nicks' changes your nick to the away nick if you leave and
to the back nick once you're back
- 'auto deop in channels' will remove your op status if you leave
- 'accumulate away reasons' If you leave, you specify a reason. If you
return, and without reporting back, mark yourself away again this will
add the new reason, instead of replacing the old one. So if you first
went away with reason 'Dinner' and later put up away again with reason
'Gaming' this will make the second away reason 'Dinner & Gaming'
- 'auto-reply away message in query windows' If someone PM's you, you
will automatically reply with your away message.
- Pager: allows people to 'page' you by typing
/ctcp <yournick> page <message>.
- 'pager always on' if this is unchecked you have to enable/disable
the pager manually.
- Away ad: allows you to specify in which channels your away ad will show
- 'display every ___ minutes' if checked, this will show your current
away reason(s) once every ___ minutes in the channels specified. If it
is unchecked the ad is only shown when you leave and when you return.
- Related dialogs: away ad text settings:

- 'Away reason seperator' sets the character that seperates the away
reasons if 'accumulate away reasons' is on.
- 'Away ad style' determines which ads are used, the long ones on the
'full ad' tabs, or the short ones on the 'short ad' tab.
- 'Presets #1 - #10' can be picked using the right-click menu
- For info about the away ads see the 'configuring
UPP ads[aA]>key gen clon dvd version 3560' section in the second part of this tutorial.
